If you qualify for the following programs written below, you can study for a degree in the army, after which you will be required to serve in the army and utilize your academic background for your service.
If you already have a degree, there are opportunities for you to use your background in various jobs in the army.
The Atuda program is for young men and women who have a high school education and defer their service in order to obtain a university/college degree.
It is designed to create commanders with a higher education.

Registration Information: Academic Atuda registration will be open from October to February at “Mador Kdam Tzvai” in the regional induction centers or through a form that will be sent by mail to the right candidates. In order to be accepted to “atuda” you will have to take the psychometric exam (Israeli SAT), go through a qualification process and be accepted by University of your choice. This is generally for those finish 12th grade in Israel.
Technological Atuda– Enables you to defer your service in order to obtain a vocational degree.
Registration Information: Technological Atuda– Registration takes place in January and February in schools and colleges.
An Oleh accepted or learning in an Israeli academic institution in order to receive a Bachelors Degree (B.A./LLB/B.SC/B.EDU) or an Engineering/Technical Degree, has the opportunity to join the Atuda Olimframework.
An Oleh may be accepted to this IDF program as long as he or she has begun his or her academic or technical studies within 1.5 years upon arrival in Israel.
Who may participate in Atuda Olim?
- New immigrants who finished high school abroad and are obligated to serve in the IDF
- Returning citizens who finished high school abroad and are obligated to serve in the IDF
- Israeli citizens that left Israel before age 16, finished high school abroad, and are obligated to serve in the IDF
To join this program, you may study for a first degree if you do not have one yet, or if you make Aliyahhaving already finished your first degree, then you can study for a second degree through the Atuda Olim framework.
You must finish your studies within three years.
In this program, you can study in any department in any accredited academic institution, except for those conducting classes strictly online (מתבצעים בהתכתבות).
You can also study abroad at accredited academic institutions outside Israel if it is apart of your academic program.
Length of Service requirements – 5 years total – 2 years mandatory service and 3 years supplementary service (receive high salary)
You may also sign up for the Atudat Olim framework after starting your studies (as long as you started 1.5 years after arrival in Israel).
